PD Day Art Camp // December 6

December 6
9:00 to 3:00 pm
Ages: 7 to 12

We offer day camps throughout the year on non-instructional days; each one is unique and connected to the current exhibition. This month, campers will explore art works by artists Diyan Achjadi, Naoko Fukumaru, and Tomoyo Ihaya through interactive tours in the Gallery and three studio workshops, detailed below.

Stories Through Our Eyes
Creative Storytelling // Current Events // Drawing // Watercolour painting

In this workshop, we consider a few of the visual elements and storytelling themes in the exhibition. Campers will be asked to think of an experience to share as a story through the symbol of the eye and other images. Students will use drawing, watercolour paints, and gold embellishments to create their works.

Stuffed Restorations
Mending // Embroidery // Acceptance

In this workshop, we consider the Japanese tradition of Kintsugi, and the value in fixing things rather than throwing them away. We will consider finding beauty in flaws and imperfections. Campers will learn basic embroidery stitches, which they can apply to a damaged fabric item that they have brought, or use the provided deconstructed stuffed animals to create a hybrid creature.

Ceramic Objects
Clay // Modeling // Sculpting // Sketching

In this workshop, we consider the ceramic works of Naoko Fukumaru. Campers will make sketches in the Gallery while viewing Fukumaru’s work, which they can use as inspiration, or they can create something from their imagination. Campers will be shown how to make a coil and pinch pot using air-dry clay.
