Pleasure Viewing: An Embodied Approach to Viewing Art

Thursday, June 29
6:00 to 8:00 pm
Ages 16+, FREE

Pleasure Sourcing is an embodied movement practice developed by dancer and somatic awareness practitioner, Vanessa A. Woulfe.  The practice invites you to bring your attention to  pleasure through sensation and movement. It does not require any previous movement training, simply a willingness to participate, a curiosity for shifting perspectives and researching habitual patterns, and an openness to experiencing more pleasure in your life. Pleasure Viewing is an adaptation of this embodied movement practice, directed at inviting the body to fully come along as you engage with viewing art.

This program will challenge you to engage with the artwork, yourself, and others in a new way. It will invite you to see the work through a new lens, asking the question "What happens  if we connect what we see externally with our internal sensations?” With pleasure as a starting point, participants will be invited to get curious about these experiences: reflect, share, and re-enter the artwork again and again.

About the Artist
Vanessa A. Woulfe
(BFA, BEd, MFA, ISTT), originally hailing from Toronto, Ontario, spent most of her adult life working as an independent professional contemporary dancer, while taking on facilitating, teaching, and leadership roles in her community. Returning to complete her Masters degree in 2013, she developed her embodied movement practice, Pleasure Sourcing, and has offered this work as classes, workshops, and in conferences for mental health, inviting people to experience more pleasure in their daily lives simply by bringing their full awareness to it. As a single mom, Woulfe moved to Tk'emlúps (also known as Kamloops) in 2020 to be closer to her family and allow herself the opportunity to build and grow her embodiment practice. Woulf received certification in Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy and opened her own Somatic Awareness company, Stellarfeels. She brings with her a contagious energy, a sensibility for fostering deep personal connection, and a lifetime of embodied practices.
