Open Gallery
July 16 to August 20, 2022

Over the course of two weeks (July 4-16), 10 interns between the ages of 14 and 21 came together to create and present the exhibition, Youth Under Construction. The 10 interns, (order, left to right) Zero Bethell, Victoria Decaire, Yannek (Johnny) Signoretti, Seharaab Baidwan, Arseniia Kobzareva, Katie Willms, Jocelyn De Luna, Melissa Cadena, Ashley Martens, and Klaira Nielsen collaborated in The LAB: 2022 program to create this new exhibition at the Kamloops Art Gallery.  The artwork portrays their message of youth joining together to form a community; by working together, they express themselves as individuals as well as a group. Using a group photo as reference, the exhibition contains a large variety of art styles and mediums, allowing each artist to express themselves individually while maintaining a community.

The title, Youth Under Construction, originates from the idea of young people who are still growing and developing as individuals, while experiencing this program together. Creating a sense of community among themselves where everyone feels included and comfortable, fostering a creative environment.

This program is generously sponsored by the Edwina and Paul Heller Memorial Fund with the Vancouver Foundation.
