Queer Futures explores Queer Futurism through visual art. Influenced by Afrofuturism, Queer Futurism imagines a future (or re-imagines a past) where all queer and trans identities are celebrated.
During the winter of 2025, local queer artists came together weekly in the KAG studios to ponder queer joys, struggles, and hopes as they imagined the future of queer people. The group discussed questions including: what does survival look like? Where does surviving end and thriving begin? What brings hope for the future of queer people? Participants worked
with various media and styles, including sculpture, textiles, photography, and charcoal drawing, to create artworks showing a future of belonging, connection, and safety for queer people.
At this time in North America, gay rights are being contested, and trans identities are being erased in policies and legislation. Presented during Pride month, and in conjunction with Kamloops Pride Week, Queer Futures is an assertion of queer visibility, resilience, and continued presence. We are here. We have always been here. We will always be here.
