INTRODUCTION
The artists we were just talking about, Jessica and Ashleigh, have a drawing exercise they like to do with each other to help them collaborate better when they’ve been apart for a while, and they also like to host drawing parties with large groups of people. They call it DRAW-A-THON and we will be doing it today!!

PROCESS
When you bring the kids into the studios, have them each find a piece of paper to stand in front of. Let them know that we’re going to start by making some big collaborative drawings. They need to make sure they’re listening because you will shout out commands for them to change places, marks, colours and more. (Like Simon Says)
You’ll get them to change what they’re doing roughly every minute or two. Keep an eye out for full/finished drawings and replace with new paper.
Is everyone ready?
Grab a bingo dabber!
Let’s all make – SQUIGGLY LINES!
STOP! Move to the left.
Repeat like this for 15 or so minutes. If they’re loving it, let them draw a bit longer.
Some prompts:
eyelashes
circles
squiggles
stars
grid
stripes
dots
triangles
switch colours
fast
faster
slow
slowest
fuzzy lines
scribble squares
water
birds
hands
zig zags
swirls
“U”s
When they’re ready, move on to part two: independent collage/drawings.
Invite the students to pick out some of the collaborative drawings that they like and have them cut them up, glue them onto the larger drawing paper and add their own marks.
Encourage them to set themselves up on the floor or on the tables, with or without chairs.
Encourage them to use as many or as few of the materials as they choose.
With 15 minutes remaining:
Clean up! Everyone must put the paper scraps in the big recycle bin and help put the materials away in their respective bins.
Let’s compare our drawings & talk about the process. What was fun/hard/silly?
Take a picture – they’re ADORABLE!
