Artist Mallory Tolcher brings her In The Paint mural project to the basketball courts of McDonald Park, Kamloops, BC. The realization of this project is a collaboration between the Artist, Kamloops Art Gallery, the City of Kamloops, and School District 73’s After School Programs.
Tolcher and After School Program Coordinator, Kelsy Torbohm, worked together to facilitate a skill-building and design program for students from Arthur Hatton, Bert Edwards, Kay Bingham, Parkcrest Elementary Schools, and Brock Middle School.
Students are creating murals for the two outdoor basketball courts at McDonald Park. In their designs, students considered the impact and role of sports and the arts in our community. Using features from the students’ drawings, Tolcher is weaving elements of their design into the final court layout.
The courts are now completed and ready for play.
