Soundwalk by Daniela O’Fee
All ages, FREE

Listeners are invited on a soniferous trail from the Kamloops Art Gallery, along Victoria Street to 1st Avenue, through Riverside Park, to the Station Plaza and back to the KAG via the 3rd Avenue crossing. Guided by the audio download for personal mobile device with headphones, the sound journey will unfold at a leisurely, unhurried pace with moments for lingering and live environmental listening.

The audio is a through-composed tone poem that scores eco-responsive, historically shifted matter from site-specific field recordings, archival renderings, temporary interventions, and instrumental improvisations. Intersecting with real-time conditions, the composition imagines how linear and cyclic soundmarks from the natural and mechanized atmosphere can mobilize limitless listening perspectives within the resounding Kamloops amphitheatre.

The soundwalk is activated as an event score offered by the artist:
As the rivers converge through this land, step into its sonic flow. Move among the shifted and hidden sounds feeling resonant frequencies from all dimensions to perform your creative act of listening.

PLEASE NOTE:
This is a self-directed program. Following registration, you will receive a download link with the audio file for you to use on your own device. The artist recommends using headphones for the best experience.

MP3 players and headphones are available to borrow at the Kamloops Art Gallery, enquire at the Admissions Desk.

Next Date:
June 22 - 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Following Dates:
June 29
Ages:
14 to 18
Admission:
FREE
Engaging with the worlds of clothing, sewing, protest, and celebration, participants will work virtually with Vancouver-based artist Hazel Meyer to design, embellish, and present a jacket/artwork that can be worn in daily life, or hung on the wall of a gallery.

We will approach clothing as more than just a covering for the body, but as a tool for empowerment, communication, and celebration. We will look to past and present social movements, in particular the LGBTQ2S+ movement, that have used clothing, banners, and text to communicate politics, desires, and identities.

Sewing skills are not needed for this workshop, only a willingness and eagerness to engage with the most amazing tool: a sewing machine, and its analogue partner, a thread and needle.

A materials kit will be provided with registration and a limited number of sewing machines are available to borrow for the duration of the program (Kamloops area residents only).

This program is generously sponsored by the British Columbia Arts Council and is FREE and open to ALL youth aged 14 to 18.
